Content marketing strategy

Content Marketing

Content marketing is now an essential part of the marketer’s toolbox, but it is important to understand what it can and what it can’t do. Essentially content marketing consists of giving content to a carefully defined audience. The purpose of content marketing is to demonstrate to your prospect that you are the expert that they have been looking for to answer a particular question or solve a particular problem. We want to inform and educate our prospect rather than to sell to the prospect, although of course the ultimate aim is to persuade the prospect to buy.

You would not spend time and money on preparing content for your audience without a reasonable expectation of getting something back in return.  Nothing is what you will receive without a proper strategic plan in place. Too many websites contain blog posts with a vague notion of improving Google ranking with SEO (search engine optimisation) but with no real goal or target in mind. Content Marketing has to be strategically planned to be successful.

But content marketing can be very powerful and can achieve a number of aims.

  • building a brand that your customers love
  • demonstrating that you are the expert in your field, and the expert that your prospects must engage if they want to solve their particular problem
  • build trust with your customer base
  • re-engage with past customers

And let’s not forget selling. An effective content marketing strategy will lead to your customers wanting to buy from you.

How can I help you

I can help you to develop a content marketing strategy with clear goals, aimed at a particular audience. I can produce that content for you, optimised for SEO, and repurposed where necessary for social media. We will link it where appropriate to your website or to your email marketing. I will make your copy work as hard as possible for you to bring real results for you and your business.

My Blog

I can hardly write about the importance of blogging for your business if I do not also blog for my business, The Travelling Copywriter.

So what is my content marketing strategy and how will I achieve it?

The purpose of my strategy is two fold

1. To boost my (Google) rankings through SEO optimised content to attract people who would like to buy my copywriting services

2. To demonstrate my authority and expertise on content writing.

The challenge for a new business or a new website is how to start ranking over better established businesses.

There is no easy answer: it is only through consistently posting content that your target audience finds useful that Google and the other search engines reward you with a higher ranking. It takes time and patience.

It is difficult to be consistent with content marketing when you are running a business. You have so many other things demanding your attention and which will often shout louder than content for your attention. As a new business myself, I know only too well how difficult it is to produce content for my own site.

One solution is to employ a content marketer to write the content for you. But please do not expect instant results.

Social Media

Great content deserves lots of readers. We have of course optimised our writing for SEO to help us be found by Google and the other Seach Engines, but is that enough?

This is where Social Media Management comes into play. Social Media is a great way to target and drive the right traffic to your website.

Is Your Blog Delivering?

Content Marketing does not deliver immediate results. It can take months of slog, trial and error to start producing results. This is one of the reasons I advise that blogging once a month is fine at the start of your blog.

I can help develop a content marketing strategy designed for your business and your budget. I can then produce that content in the right tone of voice to appeal to your readers and to lead them to know, like and trust you enough to want to do business with you.
